Flash Fiction

My new obsession. Flash fiction is a story 99 words or shorter with a character, a setting and a plot! Crammed into that tiny space is a lot of punch.

An extreme example of brevity and brilliance from Hemmingway:

For sale. Baby shoes. Never Worn.

Wow! Packs a punch in 6 words!

So here is my first attempt(99 words):

The Jilt of the Magi

She munched a generic cookie as she left the blood bank.

On her last visit she had to hide as her husband entered as well.

One pint a week for 3 months would buy her husband that iPod, their budget didn’t include such extravagances.

Christmas eve, his face sunk inside his earmuffs as he opened his new iPod.

He handed her his gift, “I now how you love Picasso, sweetheart.”

She slowly unwrapped it… two bloody ears! “But I saw you at the blood bank!”

“I wanted to use a sterile instrument, I’m not crazy!”
