VBS Nights 3 & 4

Wow what a rush to the finish!

Here's the cliff notes for the past two days.

Night Three went fantastic! The kids had a terrific time when the plagues of Egypt erupted around them. The only downside is the marshmallow carpeting we now have, well worth it.

The kids tried to clap along with the "NILE" song but of course the poor little white kids had NO RHYTHM! They started on something of a beat but it quickly broke down into what sounded more like light rain. And of course they never stopped. They had fun so it was all good. Jeff and Jeff kept the true beat.

Luke Burnam continued to dominate! The kids just swarmed him for autographs! But the cutest autograph award went to Joshua "Little Thut" and Christopher "Gershom"! This little guys signed a lot of books with better penmanship than some of the "grownup" cast.

And the Moses Family (Aaron, the Narrator and Little Thut) all did great as well. It's hard to believe that three years ago Christie had never performed in a musical.

Then suddenly it was night four.

We preped and tested the blowers ("Loose Cannon!"). But of course we didn't test them with the stage lighting and microphones pulling a lot of amps so half an hour before the show we blew a bunch of fuses! With a little scrambling it all got reset and worked great.

Mitzi and Tracy Hauck (and their kids) have put a lot of hours into this show with absolutely ZERO face time. Wheile the cast was signing autographs they had already begun breaking down and cleaning up the set.

I guess I better thank the interns too. Leslie did some great work and worked with Cece's side more than my own. She was amazing, Kelly who's taken a lot of abuse from me lifted a lot of heavy things and just kept moving at a really rapid pace. We are all ready for a nap.

I'm sure I'm forgetting to thank someone but it will come back to me! I'll try to do more of this thanking in person at the cast party.

The break down crew did a really good job. I'd guess 80% of the cast stayed and most of those who left had kids to watch. After the first hour it was a lot of heavy lifting and the teens really pitched in well.

Then we took over the local IHOP. It made me really happy that everyone helped and everyone went to IHOP and we extremely loud. I hope everyone tipped as well as I did. The IHOP staff did a good job. We had like 50 people at IHOP! Mmmm... Pancakes.

Next year, you ask? You're not so beaten up you don't want to hear about it? Ok then...

JOSHUA: SHOUT TO THE LORD! (Takes up where Moses left off and leads to the fall of Jericho! Also as an added bonus/bummer no babies in the cast!)

I'm so glad/sad that it is over. But now, Tuesdays are open again for wings. We need a secret handshake for that too!

Go Joshua! Maybe we can work in the Talking Heads "Burning down the House" when Jericho falls? Or maybe not. =)
